Site Regeneration Crynfryn Place, Newtown, Powys

Client: Mid-Wales Housing Association Limited

Contractor: WD Stant Limited/Wates Construction Limited

Summary:

The project comprised the redevelopment of a ‘brownfield’ site that was formerly an old station yard. The site had had numerous previous uses including a sawmill, cattle pens, railway sidings, a scrap yard and fuel depot.

There were existing buildings on the site requiring demolition, some still containing hazardous chemicals.

Soil investigations identified that the soils contained hydrocarbon contamination. Specialist Consultants and Contractors were engaged to treat the contamination, which was bio-remediated on site and reused as fill rather than going to landfill.

Following the remedial works, a new residential development was constructed comprising 12 new houses and 18 flats.

Metrics provided Project Management, Quantity Surveying and CDM Co-ordination services.
